...wow, really? Huh.

So it's been a while since the last post, but luckily not as long as some of my other breaks have been. My birthday was two days ago, and it went rather well.

The 'rewrite' gang surprised me with a lunch meetup and gifts, which I really didn't expect...especially on the actual day! I thought for sure they'd both be too busy.

Nothing fancy for lunch, we did pizza and I got to bring home the leftovers. :)

While we were out, we decided to go browse the toy store, and I bought a few new pony blind bags. Five new friends for my display shelves!

As for what the girls brought, well, I'm sure I won't have to worry about buying more starlight mints for a long time, haha. I also got a bar of really nice chocolate (dark with raspberry, sounds wonderful~) and a small bottle of sparkling apple cider.

The crowning glory, however, is the wonderful Princess Twilight plush they created with love for me at the local Build-A-Bear. She currently sits in my room, staring happily at my well-stocked bookshelves. I think she'll enjoy being here. :)

(Hey, with our group? I'm the Twilight, so it all fits.)

Not only did I get a party offline, but I got a party in my Animal Crossing game too! Rather fun to get gifts and celebration from my villagers. Quite a day~

In other news, the house we've been working so hard to clean out? Finally done! The last truckload was brought home this week, so we're officially out and the new owners no longer have to deal with us being around. I finally have my lamp, which I plan on giving a nice coat of paint to and a new plug before I bring it in and set it up.

Also, I've been working on my writing more. It feels good to be spinning stories again, and when I feel ready, I'll start posting chapters of this latest piece to FDD. Things have been quiet in there again, so I suppose I should get back to it. Even if nobody else joins or posts anything, I rather like the fact I've gained enough courage to post my work online. It feels like a step in the right direction. :)

Oh hey, this is another milestone post! Like with the others, I declare this an open-request post. Maybe we can get to high comment counts, maybe not, but if anyone has questions they want answered or just want to chat, or request ficlets, or whatever, drop a message.

Let's hope I can keep going for a long time!

Urban fantasy is still a thing.

And it isn't being as explored as I'd personally like. Reading rehashes of 'it's our world, but with vampires/fairies/whatever,' does get old for me after awhile.

>>; Considering that my Magda novels are basically like the Dresden Files except less infuriating... I think I'd mostly just like it if we steered away from supernatural romances.

Or at least turned them into supernatural thrillers.

I'm willing to read things like that if they're done well or subvert tropes. I usually am willing to give things a go unless they sound awful from the first few sentences. Other than that, yeah, I'd like to see people try something more daring with the genre.

Is it a game or an anime?

I'll have to Google the premise to this conglomerate of whatever it is. Lately I've had a bad habit of drifting in and out of interests in a rather horrible way.

Basically, it's set in our world (more or less) a few centuries later. After a certain catastrophe event occurred, humans began developing magic along scientific principles and now society is powered by this magic (called ars magus). And there are both magical creatures and scientific creatures and a lot of time shenanigans because of "Amaterasu," which is a god-like machine. Thing.

I think that would be named for a Japanese deity, if I'm not mistaken. It does sound interesting.

Yep! There are three "godly" machines named after the three primary deities (?) of Shintoism: Susanoo, which is a human-sized robot; Tsukuyomi, which is... something that can protect things, and Amaterasu, which can control time.

http://www.funimation.com/shows/blazblue/anime Feel free the give the anime a try~

I'm in the middle of Black Butler (don't ask me why I tried it; I blame Grell), but once I'm done there, I'll try it. Thanks. :)

THE BLACK BUTLER ANIME IS HORRIBLLLLLLE D8 Though the second series wasn't so bad. Manga was way better.

Also, Ciel and Sebastian aren't necessarily gay.

I know. I decided to see it for myself before seeing what outside sites and fangirls had to say about it. The manga is usually better.

Also, to be slightly a pedant, it should probably be Grelle. She was confirmed as MtF trans by the author in one of the databook thingies.

Though I'm not sure the anime got the memo sometimes...

I never saw the manga. Grell(e) gets the 'he' pronoun a lot; I'm guessing she's referred to as 'she' more in the manga?

Date: 2013-10-13 04:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amylan.livejournal.com
Grelle is referred as he in the anime and manga because it's Victorian England and MtF trans is not exactly a thing back then. >> So the other characters just think that she's a gay guy. The problem here is that Grelle refers to herself as female or in a feminine way (like her idea spot where she's Juliet and in a dress, or how she helped Madame Red because she can't give birth either), but these things are also gay stereotypes, so people get mixed up. In the databook thing, there was an "interview" with Grelle where she refers to herself as a lady and the author refers to her as female.

I remember her wanting to help Madame Red because of the accident that cost her the ability to have children, right. Then there was her speaking to Sebastian as a Juliet to his Romeo (and his ensuing 'plz no' reaction). Another issue is that a lot of the Japanese-only sources can't be found overseas unless people scan and translate them, so I can understand some people being confused (although more and more, I see that some people are ignorant assholes no matter what you do, so there's that).

I have nothing against the people that just aren't aware; the problem is that with Grelle, a lot of people deliberately ignore her being trans because they want yaoi with Sebastian or William. If I could get my hands on them...

I haven't gotten to William yet, I don't think. Unfortunately, people are people. If it's there to be screwed up, they'll screw it up, purposefully or otherwise. Let's not forget 'fandumb.' I've always liked Grelle, male, female, or identifying as neither, and I think as a whole people seem to have issues with characters who aren't in some pre-set binary definition of male or female.

From: [identity profile] amylan.livejournal.com
(William was the one that dragged Grelle away after Sebastian beat him up?) Yeah, I love that I'm seeing more trans characters in media, but god knows I'm done with how idiotic the fandumb can be about it.

...Speaking of trans characters and things I'm done with, I quit watching Glee. This week was the last time I watched, and only because it was the Finn Hudson farewell episode.

Oh right. It's been awhile since I saw that scene. Has Glee gotten that bad?
